Regulation Beats®: Fostering Peace Through Production

The Roots

Hi, my name is Noah Perales! I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant and the owner/operator/creator of Regulation Beats®. I have worked in the therapy field since 2018 as both an OTA and Registered Behavior Technician. This experience has included school-based, inpatient, residential treatment, and outpatient clinic settings. While working with clients across all these areas, I observed the powerful influence emotions have over peoples' lives. It was only natural for me to use my passion for music production to create something and contribute to the field.

An Opportunity to Grow Through Music

I personally experienced the power of music production in the winter of 2022 when I simultaneously endured moving cities, switching jobs, and ending a long-term relationship. To say the least, it was a major period of adjustment. I faced struggles with loneliness, fear, anxiety, uncertainty, confusion, and depression. One constant in my life was the Music Production and Recording Arts Program I was finishing up at Remington College in Nashville, TN. Per this schooling and my passion for what I was learning, I sat down every day to play, mix, and/or listen to some piece of music. As these threads of experience ran parallel to each other I began healing and adapting through the art I was making. It calmed me in the moment, buffered my engagement with tough ideas, and timestamped my emotional state for different parts of the journey. It was such a profound tool for me that I knew I had to bring it into the clinic to share with my clients.

Regulation Beats®

Participants sit down for 1 hour to create and/or analyze music through a therapeutic lens. This may include making a full song, discussing sounds/music, writing lyrics, recording audio, playing instruments, or directing production. It is an actively assisted process so no musical skill is required! You walk away with a worksheet reflective of your activity, strategies to assist with your emotion regulation, and a digital copy of the music you created. Whether you're looking for a song to help you focus, a tool to explain a tough situation, or a way to understand what the heck is going on with your feelings, Regulation Beats® can help.
